Alternative Education

The mission of the Alternative Education Program is to provide a high quality educational program in a learning environment that provides emotional, social, and intellectual support to challenging learners in a supportive atmosphere. Instruction is designed to enhance the quality of life for students who are high risk for potential exclusion from mainstream traditional educational programs.

Chester Uplands’s mission is to recognize through its instructional program the unique qualities of all learners and integrate problem solving strategies as a tool to empower students to develop their potential for the workforce and or careers as well as lifelong learning opportunities.


Accelerated Learning Academy (ALA)
program is a high school alternative program for students in grades 6-12.  The ALA program helps students earn credits towards their high school diploma using computer assisted instruction.  In addition, it assist students with their transition toward post high school careers and the workforce.


 

  Adult Basic Education & GED

The district seeks to provide extended learning opportunities for adults who wish to continue their education and improve their basic academic skills while attaining a high school diploma and workforce readiness.  You are eligible to take Pennsylvania's GED if you must meet the following requirements:  You are 18 or older, a Pennsylvania resident, and not enrolled in a public, private or any other type of accredited secondary school.

Monday        8:30 AM to 3:00 PM

Tuesday        8:30 AM to 3:00 PM

Wednesday   8:30 AM to 6:00 PM

Thursday       8:30 AM to 3:00 PM   

 

Ombudsman:  The Ombudsman program is for students in grades 9-12. It is an intervention program for students who need a non-traditional approach to academic success. The program is designed to provide sustainable interventions for students that allow them to transition back into regular education programs.

 

YouthBuild:  The YouthBuild program offers learning opportunities for students in grades 9-12, who need a non-traditional learning environment. The high school program is designed to provide academic instruction, career and technical education, counseling support, career development and skills for life to high school students starting at age 16. The goal is to develop a student’s skills so that they are self sufficient and gainfully employed.
